The Double / Fyodor Dostoyevsky

"Our hero" because so is the humble writer of this story (the second published by Dostoyevsky), is none other that Mr. Yakov Petrovich Golyadkin, a low level civil servant, a copyist like Makar AleksiƩyevich Poor people, every day he has to face a very strong hierarchical system ... This fight will surely be worth the reporter for calling him a hero. Their fight is against a giant: a David against a Goliath, an unequal struggle and it will not end up like the Hebrew biblical feat, because in real life, realism dostoievskano Goliath beating David ends. The hits from his enormous height, burying him in a mire of misery and worse, of madness. Because the reason is all that is valuable to the "poor people", the "humiliated and offended," these characters that we see continually wandering in the works of Russian writer.

Since the beginning of the work we can see that our hero is a person with mental disorders:

"Then, however, there was the second impulse of our hero and that of Mr. unique manner. Her lips trembled, her chin trembled and began to mourn our hero unexpectedly. Sobbing, shaking his head and beating his breast with his right hand , while the left hand turn grabbed the lapel of his robe of Kresty Ivanovich tried to talk and explain, but could not say a word. "

As we saw in Makar Alisievich of Poor Folk, Goliadkin few lamented his literary gifts. Co-workers tease him and reject him continuously. It is also a deeply self-conscious. It has no other purpose than to attract attention:

"By the way, stopped for a moment as a money changer and changed little all large bills and although losing out on barter, significantly thickened portfolio, which apparently caused him very great satisfaction."

This is a person who suffers, suffers a lot in any situation. Does nothing but doubt, even his own shadow, you can spend hours trying to make a decision, even to the verge of tears. But then, the decision, is already regretting having done so.

Feel sorry for this character. You feel alone, it happens all the work talking to himself, not have anyone on their side. In the end the madness completely invades your mind: schizophrenia comes when it appears twice, one Yakov Petrovich Golyadkin. Perhaps the loneliness and the degree of madness are appearing in the mind of the poor official's alter ego. Our hero, at first, is excited by the appearance of his double.

"Yes, Yakov Petrovich, you and I are friends, 'said our hero to his visitor. You and I, Yakov Petrovich, we are like the finger nail. As twins. You'll see how they'll win the hand."

Talks with him, even drunk when it happens the first night under his roof. Our hero invents a friend to avoid loneliness and extends his hand promising deep friendship. But the mind of our protagonist does not accept any good and that friend is transformed into its opposite: your worst nightmare.

As usual in all reviews of the work I put into this blog, does not reveal the ending. I just try to leave an impression of what makes me read the book. The impression I leave this work is a pity, as I said above, the loneliness of the character in his madness. And wonder ... Dostoyevsky does not disappoint. Only injustice disappoint literary criticism has done this work, leaving to one side and allowing it to pass unnoticed over the years. I encourage you to discover.
