Haiti: The poorest nations of the Continent
Haiti is considered the poorest nation in the continent, which are joining the efforts of several countries to provide financial assistance to the government, which today led by President René Préval. This country has suffered greatly throughout its history, was the first country where slaves fought for their freedom, abolishing the slave system, has had a series of oppressive governments, who failed to manage the resources of the country in recent years have had coups, thus changing the President, all this has led to serious consequences. Since 2004, when UN troops entered the country after a wave of violence that disrupted the nation, there have been four donor conferences, however, extreme poverty has not declined. In 2008, the country was beaten by four tropical storms, which left the country in a deplorable situation.
In the last conference, held in Washington, we obtained $ 324 million, that several countries donated. We gathered at these conferences will be used to rebuild damaged infrastructure. Although the Haitian government had said before the meeting that the country would need at least a $ 1,000 billion, Prime Minister Pierre-Louis said the money raised from donations is good to the economic crisis that exists in the world. In a report published by the unit of analysis of the magazine "The Economist?, Said that Haiti, Ecuador, Bolivia and the Dominican Republic are at high risk of political instability and social conflicts due to the global economic crisis, which is why the United Nations secretary general, Ban Ki-Moon said that "Haiti is at a turning point." The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has appointed former President Bill Clinton as UN special envoy for Haiti. The former president of the United States is trying to help the country through his foundation "Clinton Global Initiative?. The UN is trying to appeal to the international community to help this country, which every day becomes more unstable in a country with serious social and economic problems, instead of diminishing, they increase.
Although several countries have made donations, it is not enough.
