Enjoying Venice
Wealth is much more to enjoy in possession. Aristotle
I returned to one of my favorite cities in Italy such as Venice, just two days ago to spend his lavish carnival is the first time in winter I have to visit and I had 7 degrees Celsius and rain, a very penetrating damp cold. The other times I've done in the summer. However, it is noteworthy that essentially remains a tourist town, many Asians, some Spanish, few Latinos, and European countries.
Despite his time, many people walking the streets of the carnival, many businesses, thousands of beautiful masks own the place, still looked in many stores costumes, and felt the joy of the people, fully identified with the charm of this beautiful city.
Consider the immense cultural heritage of Venice, a summary of its ancient history, was recognized by UNESCO with the distinction of World Heritage in 1987 for the historic old town and the lagoon.
Venice, built on an archipelago of 119 small islands along the Adriatic Sea, is famous in the world for about 150 channels. The islands are connected by about 400 bridges. Its channels make up a large network of streets as a part of the Grand Canal, which is like a great avenue through which run a multitude of boats, large and small, the latter being the famous gondolas. They are very useful public transport or waterbus. In the old downtown the only means of transport are boats and walking.
We add Wikipedia, Venice (Italian Venezia in Venice Venesia in old Venetian Venexia), the city of canals, is the capital of the Veneto region. It is located on a set of islands that extends in a marshy lagoon of the same name in the Adriatic Sea, between the mouths of the rivers Po (south) and Piave (north), in northeastern Italy.
Venice is composed of 120 small islands linked by 455 bridges. You get to Venice from the mainland by the Liberty Bridge accessing the Piazzale Roma.
Since its founding, the city has suffered from periodic flooding. Today the city is considered a serious threat by repeated flooding. In spring and autumn takes place called acqua alta ("high tide") twice a day and the Piazza San Marco is flooded with water. The Italian government is preparing a project called Moses to lift mobile levees would be closed if the water level rise from the sea.
The latter is really worrying. Because it shows the rising waters. For example, on my arrival at St. Mark's Square as it was noted, was filled with water, so that to enter the church had improvised a table Pasadilla. However, there was plenty of water.
Venice [] is surrounded by shallow lagoons, that always brought him great defense. In its waters the ships ran aground easily that they knew the funds, so it was like a city entrenched within large walls. The walls of Venice are dangerous sand banks that are almost exposed at low tide. To get from the Adriatic had to know the steps, which in peacetime were marked with rows of poles with lights for the night.
On leaving the station, took train in Bologna and two hours late in arriving at Venice central station, Santa Lucia, one leaves the station and finds the water taxi that lead to the main points of the city, or if you want to walk to St. Mark's Square, crossing the whole city can do it, because it is well signposted, plus it is very busy and you can see all businesses, bridges, beautiful gondolas traveling.
It is very true what gives us a wikipedia and enjoys them intensely, despite the drizzle in colorful beauty is extraordinary, we are told, that Venice has a legendary reputation for its extensive artistic heritage and long history as a reference European painting. The wealth of the powerful of the city (the church, politicians and certain businessmen) allowed for an extended sponsorship of painters, architects and other artists, from Gentile Bellini in the fifteenth century to the late Francesco Guardi eighteenth century, to Giovanni Bellini, Titian, Giorgione, Sebastiano del Piombo, Tintoretto, Veronese, Jacopo Bassano, Giambattista Tiepolo, among others. Interestingly, many of these artists were born in other places and went to Venice attracted by its strength.
The style of the Venetian painters successive retained some common characteristics (warm, rich colors) that radiated their influence through Europe. The so-called "Venetian School" influenced such diverse masters as Rubens and Velázquez, and modeled in part the seventeenth century Baroque style.
When one travels through the streets and are interested in classical music, what Italy has left us, can not forget representing Antonio Vivaldi born in Venice, one of the summits of Baroque music, the March 4, 1678 ( died in Vienna on July 28, 1741). Another great music, Richard Wagner, died in the city on February 13, 1883. Likewise, the great composer? Gor Stravinsky died in New York though, wanted his remains were brought to Venice and now rest in the cemetery of San Michele. This reflects the importance of the city not only as the birthplace of many geniuses, but above all as an inexhaustible source of inspiration throughout the history of poets, musicians, painters and all kinds of artists.
In Venice is one of the most famous opera theaters in the world, the Teatro de la Fenice, which literally means "phoenix" and lives up to its name, having emerged from the ashes after repeated fires, the last in the late XX. First performance was some of the most famous pieces of the repertoire, including several of Verdi.
Very sad when one must leave Venice, but the time spent on it can enjoy the most intense and very difficult to forget that it can be, unfortunately like every beginning has an end, let me touch and return back to Bologna, but inviting who would like to meet beautiful cities, leaving no visit, it is something you have to know.
