Glutathione and Autoimmune Diseases


The defense of the immune system is a sophisticated and unique system. A microscopic analysis shows that our bodies are full of microorganisms such as bacteria, parasites and fungi, within us. The atmosphere through which we get our air, water and food is saturated with microorganisms. It is surprising that we are alive.

Traditionally consult a doctor only when a disease manifests itself. The doctor launched an offensive or counterattack with antibiotics, antiviral compounds or chemotherapy to kill the invader. Despite the side effects and other problems of this defensive strategy has proven to be effective. It's the best way we can fight this war.

The immune system seeks, identifies and attacks any organism threatening allergens, and cancer cells grafted tissue. This response is called antigenic response.

When a pathogen enters our bloodstream, the immune cells are activated. There are several types, including cells that form pus. The larger cells simply eat and digest pathogens. The smaller and more sophisticated cells called pathogens adapting deal with a specific defense against them.

B-lymphocytes identify pathogens and mark them as targets for T-lymphocytes. T helper cells alert the immune cells to join the battle, killer T cells destroy the enemy and suppressor T off the immune system when the job is done.

There may be some immune cells that are burdened by a highly aggressive pathogen. In these cases there is a part of the adaptive immune system that identifies and remembers a particular chemical signature of the pathogen to more effectively manage the following times.

The immune system is amazing but not infallible. Sometimes it responds to threats as if they were threats and normal metabolic functions as if they were attacking the body. We want our immune system protects us from infections and ignore harmless substances, accept organ transplants, do not attack our bodies and protects us against carcinogenesis and tumor growth.

There are mismatches in which the immune system attacks its own systems, causing what is known as an autoimmune disease. The two least desirable autoimmune response and are more common autoimmune diseases and allergies. The immune system and glutathione.

Our lymphocyte count is only part of the immune system. B-lymphocytes are only 10% of our blood circulating lymphocytes and immunoglobulins releasing work to attack and destroy the invasive pathogens. 80% of lymphocytes are T-lymphocytes.

Glutathione plays a major role in the proper functioning of the immune system. Dr. Gustavo Bounous, expert on the subject says: "A limiting factor in the proper activity of our lymphocytes in the availability of glutathione." This has been demonstrated in patients with HIV - the cause of AIDS.

AIDS is essentially a malfunction of T-lymphocytes. HIV patients typically suffer from low levels of glutathione especially in T-cells. Several studies have shown that in patients with HIV, glutathione levels help prevent the chances of survival and quality of life.

Healthy growth and effectiveness of immune cells depend on the availability of glutathione. When glutathione levels drop decreases the ability of these cells to fight pathogens, leaving a estrada development of the disease. Numerous studies have shown a direct relationship between levels of glutathione in lymphocytes and immune system effectiveness. Thus, glutathione may be called the system as food innmunologico.

In some autoimmune diseases such as above-T lymphocytes show a drop in its responsiveness to antigens. Additional conditions presented chronic inflammation in these diseases have been associated with low levels of glutathione in red blood cells.
